Bedtime Affirmations

I’ve been saying bedtime affirmations long before I knew what they were. I started having bad dreams as a young child. I remember thinking over and over again, “Let me have sweet dreams, sweet thoughts and fall asleep quick.” In fact, I still sometime use this as one of my bedtime affirmation. On a side note, I now diffuse juniper berry beside my bed. This has greatly reduce my tendency to have nightmares. I do think bedtime affirmations can help with not only nightmares, but also quality sleep.

We are going to discuss 3 different types of bedtime affirmations:

  • Traditional Bedtime Affirmations

  • Gratitude Exercise

  • 3 Wins Activity

Traditional Bedtime Affirmations

If I had to guess, this is the reason you’re here. You want some uplifting statements to say to yourself before you go to bed. I think this is a great idea. Here are a few of my favorites.

  • I will fall asleep quickly and wake up well rested.

  • I will sleep well and awake excited to start my day.

  • I will awake feeling rested and ready to start my day.

  • I am safe. I am enough. I am whole.

Feel free to use these as a sort of template and write one that applies more to your life. This is also a fun activity to do with kids.

Gratitude Exercise

Research shows we can actually get a better night sleep if we focus on 3 things we are grateful for right before we go to bed. You can do this in a journal. The cool thing about that is you can go back and read them later. You can think them in your head when you close your eyes. You can even share them with a partner and they can share theirs with you. I think the 3rd way is probably my favorite, but you can do whichever one is easiest for you. We want to set ourselves up for success, so easy is key!

3 Wins Activity

I’ve recently started doing this after reading, The Gap and The Gain by Dan Sullivan. He suggests writing down 3 wins from that day and 3 wins you’d like to have tomorrow. The hubs and I have started doing this when we remember. We both enjoy it. I have to be careful not just to make it about things I checked off my to-do list. It can be connections you made with someone. A difficult conversation that went better than you thought it would. The fact that you took some time for yourself to step outside or take a relaxing bath. Dan says that we not only sleep better, but our subconscious also solves any problems with the wins we want to achieve the next day while we sleep. How amazing is that?

Trouble sleeping could be a sign that we aren’t getting enough micronutrients in our diet. Check out my blog post on Micronutrients HERE.
