Are you ready for vitality, health and wellness? I know I have been for sometime.
In the past, I was probably what you would call a yo-yo dieter. I think it probably started in college. I would lose 10 pounds and then gain back 20. As I got older, weight losses and gain backs were larger in number. I think I’ve tried cutting just about anything one can from my diet, except for cheese. Though I did switch to goat cheese only for a time.
The problem for me is, I was always thinking about those things I told myself I couldn’t have. After being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, I took a different approach. I started to notice which foods helped my body feel good and which foods made it feel worse. It was interesting how after some meals I felt like I could take on the world, but after eating other meals I would almost immediately need a nap.
What made it even more interesting was some of the foods were I felt great were listed as unhealthy foods on some lists and visa versa. I had a few friends and relatives who decided to do this food testing with me. Some even went as far to get a food allergy test to see which foods were causing inflammation in the body.
All that to say, I don’t believe there is a list of healthy and unhealthy foods that works for everyone. I think it’s important to listen to our bodies. I’ve found by doing this that there are some foods that I used to love that I don’t think I’ll ever want to eat again because of how I feel after. The craving is gone and my body has replaced that with craving something that helps it feel amazing. It’s funny when I watch tv and see someone eating something from a fast food joint and I’ll remember what it was like to love eating there. But I literally have no desire to eat there anymore. I’m not saying I don’t eat fast food occasionally, but for the most part what I order has changed. Not because I’ve told myself I can’t have it. My body literally doesn’t want it anymore.
Something happened after I turned 40. It was like a switch flipped. I was eating and exercising the same, but still gaining weight.
I had given up hope and decided to stop weighing myself. I accidentally saw it while at the doctors. It wasn’t a healthy weight for me.
